Welcome to the August edition of our monthly series, Favorites, Recommendations & Coveted Item, where we share our favorite travel products that we’re loving each month. This month, we’ve got some colorful and useful items for you. Let’s jump right into it.
F1 Go Clean Laundry
Every traveler ends up with a set of dirty clothes that needs to be lugged around, either till the next destination or back home for a wash. We have two very different ways in how we pack our dirty clothes: Kapil separates one side (zipped side) of his roller for dirty clothes only, while Saadia grabs laundry bags in the hotel rooms to pack hers. Since neither is ideal, we finally invested in the Go Clean laundry bags. They are durable, made of heavyweight nylon material, and contains odors incredibly well. They come in three fun colors (we have the orange and the blue). Saadia especially loves that we match.
Word of warning: There are tons of Go Clean bags and it is only a matter of time before we become owners of several other ones, and you may too.
Available for purchase at Flightoo1.
Backpacks with a message and purpose. That’s what Taaluma Totes stands for. We were lucky to have nabbed this gem when it was at its pre-production stage and featured on Shark Tank. It was a gift from a friend and it has been used ever since! The bag’s simple and thoughtful design makes it the perfect travel companion.
The padded lining helps it double as a pillow on an overnight train ride, long airport layovers or a long haul flight. The inside pocket helps keep your passport and other important documents safe. The side pocket is perfect for carrying a bottle or sunglasses.
But what makes this bag special amongst the many out there is its creation story:
On the website, select a country of your choice, the fabric of your choice and voila! Leave the rest to Taaluma Totes. Not only do you get a beautiful backpack filled with memories from a country you love, but you are helping employ adults with disabilities and giving 20% back to your tote’s country. All around win-win.
The unique prints make it easily identifiable for you (male and female) and bring a great sense of style and individuality. When someone asks about your backpack, you will always have a great story to tell and a wonderful company to shed light on.
Still, if for some reason you are not happy, Taaluma Totes offers free returns.
Price: starting at $65
Available for purchase at Taaluma Totes.
Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup Foundation
Make up in the summer time is one of my least favorite things to wear. Unfortunately, sometimes it is a necessity. In preparation for our trip to Bermuda earlier this summer, I was in search of a foundation that fit two criteria: lightweight and waterproof. After a lot of research and trials at Sephora, I settled on Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup. It. is. beautiful!
It has light-diffusing spheres which visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and blurs imperfections for a flawless finish. It feels like wearing nothing but the skin looks natural, illuminated and bright with a luminous demi-matte finish. Whether you prefer a natural finish or full coverage, this foundation is buildable to satisfy everyone’s coverage preference.
With 24 shades, I guarantee you there is one to fit your skin tone. In fact, the range is so amazing, I struggled to decide which of the two shades were best for me, because both were so close to my skin tone. The 1 oz. packaging makes it perfect to travel with, even on a carry on.
Note: Although it does not advertise itself as waterproof, I’ve used it in heat and humidity and the product stays put (when applied with a setting powder on top.)
Available for purchase from various brands at Sephora.
The Estee Edit Dissolve the Drama 2-in-1 Makeup Remover & Cleanser
For women, finding the ideal make up remover is a task, especially because half the make up we wear are waterproof. Well, that is about to change. Have you used the Estee Edit by Estee Lauder Dissolve the Drama 2-in-1 Makeup Remover & Cleanser? I know, it is a mouthful. Once you get past that though, you will be extremely pleased with this formula. If I had not used it myself, I would never believe what I am about to tell you: the oil based cleanser got rid of EVERY SINGLE MOLECULE of make up on my face, including the stubborn waterproof mascara. I have never tried a makeup remover that was not only effective, but left my skin feeling so healthy. It took neither multiple applications nor several washes/wipes.
This cleansing formula is enriched with jojoba oil, aloe, and cucumber—soothing skin as it gently yet thoroughly removes all traces of makeup, including pigmented and long-wear. When you add water, this luxe oil turns into a milky cleanser that rinses cleanly away, leaving skin clear, soft, and glowing. – Sephora
It’s all true.
At home, I use the cleanser and on travel I use the wipes.
Price: $32 (cleanser), $15 (wipes)
Available for purchase at Sephora.
First Aid Kit
It goes without saying that if you are a seasoned traveler, then you have probably seen more than your share of cuts and scrapes. It happens to the best of us, and it generally happens at a time when we WISH we had a first aid kit on us. Luckily, we have learned from our past mistakes and now always pack a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) first aid kit on our travels. We have found that no matter how great a first aid kit is, it is always missing something we really need or has something we rarely use. Therefore, DIY is our preferred way to go.
Since the most important thing about a first aid kit is a hard durable container, we decided to use a Johnson & Johnson First Aid Kit we had previously bought instead of searching for a new one. We suggest doing the same.
Here are a list of items we pack in our kit for everyday, non specialized travels:
- bandage (different size and shapes)
- antiseptic wipes
- gauze pads
- antibiotic ointment
- medical adhesive tape
- pain killers (i.e., Advil, Tylenol)
- anti-diarrhea medicine (i.e., Imodium, Pepto Bismol)
- night time cold/sleep medicine (i.e., Nyquil/ZzzQuil)
- cold medicine (i.e, Sudafed, DayQuil)
- antihistamine medicine (i.e., Benedryl, Allegra)
- prescription medicine (as prescribed by doctor)
- balm/cream for muscle sore/pain (i.e., Bengay, Yoder)
- insect repellent (i.e., Off, Sawyer Picaridin)
Although we take additional items based on the type of trip we are going on, the above items are our staples.
Price: ranges from $3-$15
Available for purchase at any pharmacy, convenience stores or Amazon.
Revelation Sleeping Bag
We have been in search of a good sleeping bag for a few adventure trips we have planned for the future. Sleeping bag is one of the most important, if not the most important item on outdoor trips. After a lot of careful research, we narrowed it down to a few. This month, we share the Revelation sleeping bag by Enlightened Equipment. We love the story of Enlightened Equipment. It was formed by Tim Marshall, who decided to make his own camping gear that was lighter and more functional than anything else available on the market. After numerous experiments, he developed the Revelation quilt. Considered one of his most refined products.
The Revelation top quilt is the most versatile quilt available. It uses a partially-zippered footbox (the zipper extends 20″ from the foot to the back of your knees) which allows the footbox to quickly be opened or closed, and weighs only 1 gram more than using snaps. Utilizing a simple yet adaptable attachment system, you can cinch the quilt edges down tight for cold weather, or open up for more ventilation when it’s warm, including opening the whole quilt and footbox flat like a blanket. The Revelation is made-to-order just for you, without a custom price tag. Choose the specific down option, size, temperature rating, and fabrics you need to hit the performance you need with no unnecessary weight. This is the perfect quilt for canoeists, kayakers, hikers, climbers, and cyclists who need minimal weight while being able to adapt to any situation they may find on the trail. – Enlightened Equipment
We love that this sleeping bag is not the traditional mummy shaped bag and can be used as an open quilt, if desired. We picked this brand as one of our top contenders because we appreciate their beginning. Stories like theirs are important because they are not just about big corporate brands out to make money; they are invested in quality and comfort and truly understands the needs of their consumer.
Price: ranges from $195 – $475
Available for purchase at Enlightened Equipment.
Hope you enjoyed this month’s series and found it helpful! See you next month with more favorites, recommendations and coveted item. Till then, Happy Shopping and Happy Travels!
