Welcome to our monthly series, Favorites, Recommendations & Coveted Item. We will be sharing our favorite travel products that we’re loving each month. We always share them live on Snapchat (so be sure to follow us), but also wanted to create a space for them on the blog. This way, if you’re ever in the market for one of these items or want to buy a gift for your favorite traveler, you have a place to come back to.
So without further ado, let’s hop right into it.
Looking for that perfect makeup bag, big enough to fit everything, but not so big that you actually DO fit everything? Then look no further. Head over to Vera Bradley (this is not a sponsored post, I really do love them!) and pick up the blush and brush makeup case in MEDIUM. Trust me guys, I deliberated at the store for almost two hours, going back and forth between the large and medium before my super long trip to Asia. I wanted to make sure I could take everything I needed, but did not want to overpack. Turns out, the medium was the right choice.
In the brush holder section, I was able to take 10 brushes (probably still over did it). The clear zipper on the side held my lipsticks, lip and eye pencils. The main compartment was perfect for my eyeshadow palette, kubuki brushes, foundation, setting spray, primer, blush, pencil sharpener, bronzer, powder, setting powder, and more. It really was the perfect size, and small enough to pack easily in between other bigger items. It forced me to take only what I needed and not several versions of the same product. Less is more. If you still insist you need a bigger size, then just grab the large. The setup for both is identical.
Available for purchase at Vera Bradley, Amazon, and Macys.
If there’s only one thing you purchase from this list, it should be the Grid-It. Not only is it great for travel, its great for everyday use. The Grid-It is just these elastic loops of various sizes on a sturdy platform, where you insert anything you want to keep it organized and free from moving. We use ours for all our electronics and their corresponding wires and bring it with us on every trip. It’s probably the only item we both own that we use religiously.
You can buy several (comes in a variety of sizes) and use them for medication, makeup, office supplies; the versatility and simplicity of this product is what makes it so desirable. Makes for a great gift!
Available for purchase on Amazon, Cocoon, Bed Bath and Beyond.
Lush’s Shampoo Bar
We love natural products, and recently switched to natural shampoos and conditioners. But traveling as much as we do, we wanted a product that could be easily packed, without having to worry about the liquid limitations. Luckily we found Lush. Their adorable, beautiful, colorful (the things that concern women more than men perhaps) and versatile shampoo and conditioner bars (something for every hair type) are perfect for travel. You get approximately 80 washes and although they are small, they are so concentrated that they do the job of two to three liquid shampoos. I’ve been using them for months, have given them as gifts to all my girl-friends (who love them) and recently got Kapil to use them too – he loves it as well! So, fear not, this product is not strictly for women! And at such a reasonable price, totally worth the risk of trying.
Available for purchase at Lush.
Fly Solo by Teresa Rodriguez Williamson
What is travel without a good reading material? I love reading books that instinctively make me want to travel. Fly Solo has been on the book shelf for years and have been read several times during the course. We both go on solo travels at least once a year, and if I ever need a little help deciding where to go next, I reach for this book. It’s the perfect book for a beginner female solo traveler while equally enjoyable for a seasoned solo traveler. Begins with a fun quiz to assess your mood and travel style, based on which, it renders a list of places you should visit. Every time I take the quiz, I get a different result – proof that it has repeat value!
Available for purchase at Amazon.
Anker Astro E1 Portable Charger
Of all the things we’ve used over the last six months, the portable charger has been the single most useful product and one we do not leave home with – even when we’re on home turf!
We’ve tried loads of different power banks over the years, this one wins for being most effective and user-friendly. It auto-detects your device and charges the phone only when you hit a charge button on the side, that means, you are never accidentally using up the power bank source. We have an iPhone 6S and an iPhone 6S Plus, and it charges the phones to 100% twice while on the go. It is said to be able to charge an iPad mini to 80%. So for less than $20, you could buy a few and leave them in your office, car, purse, home, anywhere! It’s adorable candy bar look and size make it pleasant on the eyes and easy to carry.
Available for purchase at Amazon, Anker and Office Depot.
Everlane’s Modern Loafer
Often we see coveted items being featured as the unattainable, unreasonably priced item. I don’t believe in that philosophy. If it is truly unattainable, I am probably not going to aim for it. Instead, I prefer to feature coveted items that are great quality products with a higher than usual price tag. Therefore, worthy of being yearned for.
This month, I want to feature the Modern Loafer by Everlane. They have been my favorite discovery brand this year. With a focus on transparent pricing, they give you a breakdown of the cost of materials, labor, duties, transportation for every single item they sell. They don’t just tell you which factory made the products, they give you a full profile on them. Declaring to the customer their true cost verses their retail price and taking it a step further by providing the traditional retail price. Has any brand ever been this transparent with their customers?
The Modern Loafer are said to be incredibly comfortable, key item for any world traveler, while being incredibly stylish. Available in 9 beautiful colors, these beauties are 100% leather (half chrome-tanned and half vegetable-tanned leather), making them super soft but still structured and made in Italy (very important for any shoe lover). They do run narrow, so be sure to go a 1/2 size up.
Available for purchase at Everlane.
Hope this was helpful! See you next month with more favorites, recommendations and coveted item. Till then, Happy Shopping and Happy Travels!
